Community First in Herefordshire and Worcestershire is aiming to help village halls make the most of their central role in rural villages to help tackle loneliness. Using funding from the Big Lottery Fund’s Awards for All programme, village halls in the two counties are invited to meet together with local volunteers, activity providers and local organisations to learn about what works in helping reduce loneliness, and what to look out for in a village hall setting.
Local organiser for Community First, Justine Carbury, said:
“During our project, Hall Together Now, we won’t be reinventing the wheel, and we won’t be asking the impossible - we will be sharing best practice and good ideas and advising village hallers and some of their activity providers how to work effectively and safely. We will be working with other organisations with relevant expertise and contacts to help tackle loneliness. For instance, at our first meeting, Alzheimer’s Society and Wychavon District Council will be making a contribution to the discussions.”
People involved in village halls are all welcome, particularly if they are activity providers or interested in volunteering; please email: richardt@comfirst.org.uk to book your place.
