Code of Governance

All charities, voluntary organisations and community groups need to be managed if they are to function. The governing body, which may be known as the committee, the management committee or, in the case of charities, the board of trustees, is responsible for the governance of the group or organisation. Governance involves planning, leadership, budgeting, ensuring that legal and financial requirements are met and providing sound management.

This toolkit is designed for trustees and committee members, staff who support boards of trustees and development workers helping local groups to set up and develop. It provides practical examples and advice on using the Code of Governance, with tools to help governing bodies to make improvements in their governance and build on strengths and skills.
