Success for Burley Gate Community Shop!

They've done it!

Burley Gate Community Shop has succeeded in raising enough from Community Shares and Loans to open a new shop at the Village Hall, the first in Herefordshire to qualify for Social Investment Tax Relief.

The combined offer raised more than £55,000 beating the target of £48,000 which means work can start soon to keep a village shop open when the old one closes later in August 2015.

Martin Hoskins, Co-Chair of the Society says, "We wanted to thank you for all you help in getting us to this point and for all your work on our behalf to get the documentation ready."

Community First's Nick Comley says, "Burley Gate is yet another great example of community shops responding to market failures to keep services and facilities in dispersed rural communities. We are confident that their business plan and model will be successful and that the community shop will be a sustainable asset for many years to come. It is fantastic news that the community has pulled together in this way to secure important assets of community value"
