Sport Relief

Sport Relief was set up by Comic Relief and BBC sport to use the power and passion for sport to tackle poverty and disadvantage, both in the UK and in some of the worlds poorest countries. Across the UK, Community Foundations will be distributing £4m in total.

Community First is supporting Worcestershire Community Foundation to deliver Sport Relief in Worcestershire.  Applications up to £2,000,  in exceptional circumstances £10,000.

The main thrust of the fund is to encourage sporting activities that have a social purpose, removing barriers between communities and promoting social inclusion.

Mission

Sport relief aims to fund work which uses sport and exercise to strengthen communities and provide opportunities for people who are excluded or disadvantaged. This may be through low income, rural or social isolation, age disability, race, sexuality or gender.

This funding programme is due to finish in December 08.
