Secondary Care MH redesign - invitation to workshops

In April the Trust will launch a new enhanced service to support people experiencing mental health problems to get help early.

It will be run by our Worcestershire Healthy Minds team (formerly the Primary Care Mental Health Team) and will include help to improve mental wellbeing through groups and courses run in the local community and through support from mental health professionals, which together will help people cope with things like anxiety, stress and worry.

This service is being delivered in partnership with Community First and will try to ensure people have access to groups and courses being run across the county by both the NHS and other voluntary sector organisations.

Worcestershire Healthy Minds will help people get the help they need early to try to prevent these types of issues becoming more serious. The expectation is that this will reduce the demand on our community mental health teams and inpatient mental health wards which are part of a group of services known as secondary care.

We have been working with mental health commissioners on this work. Commissioners fund healthcare services and have requested that funding be re-allocated from some secondary care services into supporting the development of the new Worcestershire Healthy Minds service. Given the financial pressures in the NHS there is also a requirement that some secondary care services are re-designed to realise additional savings, whilst still offering high quality safe care to those who need it, when they need it.

Therefore while we are committed to maintaining support for those experiencing serious mental health problems, including during a crisis period, the current set up of our community mental health teams, and the three mental health wards which we run, will need to change. We want to co-design the new service with patients, members of the public, staff and other interested stakeholders and want to invite you all to come together to help us do this.

Have your say ...

We want to hear your views about how our services might be designed to better fit in with the changes described above. We want to ensure that future services support those individuals when they need them most whilst acknowledging that the overall budget for secondary care mental health is being reduced. We have workshops for anyone interested in contributing and the details of who to contact and the times and venues are below:

• 23rd February from 1.30pm @ Kidderminster Town Hall,  Vicar St, Kidderminster DY10 1DB
• 25th February from 1.30pm @ Redditch Town Hall,  Walter Stranz Redditch, B98 8AH
• 29th February from 1.30pm @ St Peter’s Baptist Church,  Eden Close, Worcester, WR5 3TZ

The feedback from these events will then be discussed at a final session where a new design for the service will be developed and proposed. Those who attended any of the above will be invited to this session:

• 8th March from 1.30pm @ Warndon Hall Room 1,  Shap Drive, Worcester, WR4 9NX

You must confirm attendance in advance and places will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis. To reserve a place please email WHCNHS.AMHLDSDU@nhs.net or call 01905 760222

If you are unable to attend but would like to participate then a questionnaire will be available online at www.hacw.nhs.uk/mentalhealthredesign from February 23rd.
