Sample projects - Sport Relief

Young Firefighters Association £1186

Purchase 2 large kayaks with large buoyancy aids, paddles, helmets and spray decks to enable young people who are not the average weight to participate in this water activity. Aiming to increase access to sport, they anticipate approximately 40 young people accessing the sport that otherwise wouldn’t.

Wychbold Youth Project £1000

Following an increase in criminal damage and anti social behaviour, there is a fear that young people will become disengaged with the community. Local residents and young people are setting up a youth group to provide activities for after school and holidays. Sport Relief is contributing £1000 to purchase sports equipment including goals posts and basketball nets to help start the group. The project aims to not only increase access to sport where few leisure activities already exist but hopes to encourage sporting activities that bring communities together.

Descendents of Windrush £1000

Young people living in a variety of deprived wards in Redditch identified a need to provide access to sport for young people aged 13-19. Not only would this enable the differing cultural backgrounds (white, black, dual heritage, Asian, Pakistani) to mix but provide an opportunity for skill and qualification development. Trained coaches will work with a mix of young people two sessions per week and achievement will be recognised through millennium volunteers, Duke of Edinburgh, Coaching awards and joining other teams in the town tournament.
