National Occupational Standards
The National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Trustees and Management Committee Members in the Voluntary and Community Sector are designed for anyone who is a trustee or committee member of a charity, voluntary organisation or community group. They are designed to help those individuals to ensure that they recognise any training needs they may have, to build their confidence and to understand their responsibilities as decision-makers and governors. The NOS are complementary to the Good Governance Code. Built around four units: safeguarding and promoting the values and mission of the voluntary or community organisation; determining the strategy and structure of the voluntary or community organisation; ensuring the voluntary or community organisation operates in an effective, responsible and accountable manner; ensuring the effective functioning of the voluntary or community organisation’s board of trustees, the Standards are designed to be flexible and should be considered in the context of the particular organisation in question. The National Occupational Standards can be downloaded below.A pocket-sized edition has also been published and this provides a good introduction and overview to the full NOS. This is also available for download below.
