Tip Sheet: Mini Guide to Community Planning

Tip Sheet.

This sheet is to be used in conjunction with the main Community Planning Guidance Pack and is a mini guide to the main steps of producing a Community Plan.
  •  Step 1: Getting started

To start the process you need to get people interested with publicity and holding an open event to gather support to undertake the production of the plan
  • Step 2: Establishing the steering group

Set up a steering group with wide representation from the community. The group should include representatives from the Parish Council, and other volunteers
  •  Step 3: Draw up a budget and work plan

Put together a budget and programme on how you are going to undertake the plan, ensuring ;you consult with everyone in the community
  • Step 4 Community consultation

This is the time to undertake a variety of interesting and fun consultation exercises involving as many people as possible both in taking part and in expressing their views
  • Step 5: Prioritising and planning action

Sort and prioritise the issues and begin to put together an action plan to take forward identified issues
  • Step 6: Feedback to community and drafting the plan

Feedback the draft results to the community, local groups and other organisations that have been involved in the process. Produce a draft plan - use the action plan template in the guidance pack and share this as widely as possible
  •  Step 7: Finalising the plan

Re-draft the plan including all of the feedback from the community and service providers. Categorise your actions. The end result is the final community plan. Send out copies of the plan or a summary of the plan to the whole community and local service providers—CELEBRATE!
  •  Step 8: Implementing the plan

Consolidate any actions started and begin to implement others
  •  Step 9: Monitor and review

Once you have completed a plan a regular review and update will ensure continuous progress on the needs and requirements of your community
