“Reconnections are like a family to me”

At Worcestershire County Council’s Tackling Loneliness event in May at The Hive in Worcester Reconnection’s client Alf Clay spoke about his experience of the programme.

Alf said “I can’t believe the things I’m doing now. I have to tell people I can’t make Thursday afternoon, I’ve got plans!” He added “I volunteered for years until cancer struck me. Now I’m better, and I want to get volunteering again”.  He also said “Reconnections are like a family to me.”

The Reconnections service has been operating since August 2015, and is now helping over 280 people in Worcestershire to reduce loneliness and to reconnect into their communities. Available to those over 50, Reconnections first works with each individual to understand their specific needs and interests, before helping them work towards a goal – such as joining a local club or activity – in manageable stages.
