Free Sustainability Workshop

Following the success of the first 3 workshops held on sustainability, Midwest Rural Enterprise has been asked to run one further free workshop - Sustainability - including income generation in your strategy

If you a voluntary or community organisation who is concerned about finding enough income to be viable or you are you considering broadening your spectrum of income to include charging for some services and developing some trading activities as a means to sustainability, this workshop is for you. Or you may be someone with a good idea to address a social or environmental need and can see a business opportunity to meet this need.

This free workshop, on March 23rd at Bishops Frome Village Centre, Herefordshire, will help you to understand the steps you need to take and access help and support for up to a year whilst developing and operating this way of working.

Workshops will be held from 9.30 until 4.00 with lunch provided. Places are limited, so please contact: Sue Fry, safry@live.com tel: 07779 539487 to book. The workshops are organised by Midwest Rural Enterprise, a local Community Interest Company with funding from Business Link West Midlands

The course will start at 9.30, and we will provide a light lunch to see you through until the afternoon. We hope to finish the workshop at 3.00, and allow time for some one to one sessions for you to discuss your own issues/ideas, and ask questions specific to your enterprise. Business advisers will be in attendance, and if you would like to book into a session with one of them following the workshop you will need to let me know in advance. If it is not possible to book you in for a post course session on the 23rd March, I will arrange for a follow up meeting for a session with an adviser at a mutually convenient time.

The workshop will cover:
  • the social enterprise organisation and how it is different
  • understanding the importance of management structure and decision making
  • the social entrepreneur and how they develop an effective social enterprise
  • building the team
  • contacts for social enterprise development
  • social goals and financial sustainability
  • measuring financial and social success
  • relating the social goals to the business plan
  • basic principles of full cost recovery
  • understanding how to manage long term sustainability
Sue Fry will be the workshop leaders, and will be providing business advice sessions.
