Feckenham Village Shop Wins Award

A Grassroots Grant of £5,000 was awarded to Feckenham Community Shop to assist in the setting up of this much needed community enterprise enabling the transformation of a dilapidated building and the provision of ongoing stock locally and organically sourced. Parishioners of Feckenham suffer from rural isolation, inadequate public transport links and are a largely ageing population which made creating their own community shop so important. A group of 70 volunteers worked arduously to raise money to buy, upgrade and open a new community shop after nearly 20 years without one. Over £40,000 was raised in just 7 months and over 300 residents signed up as shareholders.

With support from the Grassroots Grant Programme and a number of other funders the result has been an enormous success, bringing not only a much needed community shop to the village but an overwhelming feeling of community spirit. Local schools and businesses are also benefiting from the shops success and Feckenham Community shop have been awarded Britain’s Best Village Shop of the Year.
