Ecohere: 3 Months on...

Where are we now?

We are now at a very exciting stage in the project! After a couple of months of intense preparation, we are about to begin working with two communities where the Parish Councils have decided that making plans around becoming more sustainable is something that will benefit their local area and all who live there. We’re really looking forward to beginning to support the members of these communities and to see what exciting ideas and aspirations will form their Sustainability Action Plans. And we expect to be working with three more by the end of the summer - keep checking this site for future developments!

The first three months of Ecohere….

We’ve had a wonderful and varied couple of months of finding out who is doing what in the county; making connections with individuals, groups and organisations that support the multitude of sustainable areas – housing, transport, waste, education, social enterprises, renewable energy – to name but a few! This work has also included visiting some very inspiring local projects (such as Yarpole Community Shop and the Vicarage Street Community Allotment in Leominster) and work on a web-based mapping project that aims to make finding out about the huge range of local sustainability resources, events and organisations much easier for Herefordshire’s communities

The benefits of this project’s partnership between Community First, Herefordshire NewLeaf , Herefordshire Council and The Bulmer Foundation are also already becoming clear. It offers these organisations and the communities that we will work with, a unique and joined-up opportunity to help shape a sustainable future for the Herefordshire’s rural communities.

Want to get involved?

We will shortly be inviting many more rural areas to get involved with Ecohere! If you are interested in developing a Sustainability Action Plan in your local community, please let your Parish Council know, or contact Rebecca (rebeccas@comfirst.org.uk tel. 01432 262963) or Mary (mary@herefordshirenewleaf.org.uk tel. 07792 881060) for any further information.
